The Depot is set to celebrate its grand opening on January 19, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, marking a significant milestone in rural business development. This event will showcase a unique business model designed to foster local producers, shared resources, and entrepreneurship in Potter, Western Nebraska. The Depot, a versatile hub, features a bakery, a rentable commercial kitchen, and flexible spaces for entrepreneurs and businesses. The grand opening will feature a special Western Nebraska sandwich, showcasing the region's finest ingredients and producers. This meal is a collaboration between Chef Tyler Miller of First Response Meat Co. and Bloom & Bake Market, using all-natural, locally sourced beef from Lukassen Cattle Company. The sandwich highlights the Depot's commitment to supporting local food businesses and providing access to its commercial kitchen for production and collaboration. Additionally, Jenny Murphy will offer bagel and cheesecake samples, demonstrating how independent food creators can utilize the kitchen for testing and sharing their culinary creations. The event will also feature locally sourced potatoes fried in Nebraska-made beef tallow, showcasing traditional cooking methods and locally produced cooking fats. 308 Salt, a Nebraska-based producer, will also be available. Beyond food, The Depot will offer a diverse range of goods, including Primrose Oil products, Inukshuk dog food, and Hestra gloves, alongside locally produced items. Looking ahead, The Depot plans to introduce a Youth Entrepreneur Corner, encouraging kids and young people to explore entrepreneurship. This initiative aims to provide no-cost opportunities throughout the year for youth entrepreneurs to showcase products, test ideas, and gain valuable experience in a supportive environment. The Depot also offers flexible satellite office and pop-up space for businesses seeking a limited or recurring presence in Potter. Applications are open for new vendors and entrepreneurs, with ample space available for makers, producers, and small businesses. Owner Drew Enevoldsen emphasizes the project's focus on creating access to kitchens, shelf space, customers, and opportunities, inviting others to join the journey. The grand opening is an invitation to the public to explore the space, meet the producers, and understand how The Depot supports Western Nebraska's future.
