Wind Warning: Prepare for Potential Power Outages and Downed Trees
Be Aware: Strong Wind Gusts Could Hit the Region on Wednesday
A potential weather event is on the horizon, and KIRO 7's meteorologists are sounding the alarm. There's a chance of strong wind gusts, reaching up to 60 miles per hour, in certain areas on Wednesday. This could be a significant storm, and it's important to stay informed and prepared.
The low-pressure system is expected to move rapidly from south to north, starting in the South Sound mid-to-late morning and reaching the Central Sound by midday. By 5 pm, it will have pushed north, affecting the Northwest Interior. The strongest gusts are predicted for Island County and Whatcom County, where speeds could exceed 60 mph.
The timing of the peak gusts varies from north to south, with Olympia experiencing them around mid-morning, the Central Sound around midday, and the Northwest Interior around 5 pm. This could result in a widespread but powerful storm.
Two computer models are being tracked by KIRO 7's team, and they present different scenarios. The first model predicts a large area of low pressure, bringing strong southerly winds from late morning until evening, with gusts in the 50-60+ mph range. This could lead to power outages for many, which is why KIRO 7 has issued the Pinpoint Alert. The second model, however, shows a much weaker system, with max gusts between 15 to 25 mph, which would be the ideal outcome.
The KIRO 7 team will be closely monitoring the system to determine the likelihood of stronger gusts. This will help you prepare for potential power outages and downed trees. Stay tuned for updates, and be ready to take action if necessary.
