An Irish man, Seamus Culleton, has been detained by ICE for five months, describing the experience as a 'modern-day concentration camp'. Mr. Culleton, who has been living in the US for nearly 20 years and is married to a US citizen, was detained while driving home from work. He was initially held in Massachusetts, then moved to New York, and finally to a detention center in El Paso, Texas. The conditions in the center were described as 'horrible' and 'filthy', with little sanitation, limited food, and a lack of fresh air and sunlight. Mr. Culleton claims ICE agents tried to get him to sign deportation papers, which he refused. His wife, who had booked flights to attend one of his court dates, expressed shock and distress over his initial detention and the difficulty in maintaining contact with him. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has acknowledged the case and is providing consular assistance to Mr. Culleton and his family.
