Taunton's beloved Apple FM has found a new home after being asked to leave the hospital where it broadcasted for over half a century. The community radio station, which has been a staple of Taunton's airwaves since 1969, was given the boot from Musgrove Park Hospital in Somerset due to changing patient needs and service growth. But here's where it gets controversial... The station's managing director, Greg Perkins, is 'very excited' about the new location, which is actually the former gatehouse of Taunton Castle, thanks to the generosity of Mambo's. And this is the part most people miss... The station's founders had a surprising connection to the new location, as one of them, Phil Knighton, had a great-grandmother who lived in Ine's Cottage. Now, the team is turning its attention to moving in, but there's a lot of work to be done. The volunteers are eager to get started, but they need help from the community to clear the space, set up the studio, and move equipment. So, if you're in Taunton, why not lend a hand and help Apple FM get back on the airwaves? The team estimates it will take 'six or seven months' to be broadcasting from their new home.
